The Cleveland Alumni Chapter (Gamma Alpha Sigma) of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,
Inc. conducted an initiation ceremony that added to its membership Braylon Edwards,
#17 Wide Receiver, of the Cleveland Browns. After much time and consideration,
Mr. Edwards was chosen as the only initiate in this year’s class.
Several members, from both the local area and from other parts of the Midwest,
were in attendance to witness the ceremony.
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is a community service organization that dates
back to its founding in 1914 at Howard University. Through its history, Phi Beta Sigma
has added to its membership several high profile athletes such as Emmit Smith (Dallas Cowboys),
Jerry Rice (SF 49ers), Willis McGahee (Buffalo Bills), and countless others.
Edwards, a former star at the University of Michigan has had a spellbinding career thus far. His
college stats include: Two-time Dean’s List honors, Two-time First Team All Big Ten, 2004
Big Ten All American, Bilitenikoff winner and Big Ten Player of the Year. Edwards made over 252
catches for 3,541 yards and 39 touchdowns while at U of M.
Braylon was drafted 3rd overall in the first round draft of the 2005 NFL Draft to play wide
receiver for the Cleveland Browns. As a rookie he posted 32 catches for 532 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Edwards is quoted as saying “It is in our service to others that we achieve true greatness.”
